In the last few years, there has been a growing awareness of the benefits which HPC may bring to the fRG community and related fields. Encouraged by such awareness the Sim Lab Quantum Materials (SLQM) (http://www.fz-juelich.de/ias/jsc/slqm) at JSC and Theory groups at the Physics department of RWTH Aachen University organize a workshop with the intent 1. to raise awareness within the field of RG practitioners about the opportunities of HPC solutions and their impact on relevant scientific questions; 2. to exchange ideas and discuss possible options and perspectives at the crossroad between HPC and RG; 3. to initiate a platform where common challenges and goals are identified, put together, and classified based on the work effort necessary to address them.
Scientific Programme
The desired outcome of the workshop is to provide HPC-related high-level support to fRG code developers, maintainers and users and, at the same time, the start of an initiative to develop an operational environment and support structure for the implementation and eventual deployment of community codes or libraries. In more mundane terms the workshop will focus on questions like:
- Which operations or modular kernels (if any) accounts for the current major computational bottlenecks?
- To which extent has HPC and parallel programming already been applied?
- What are the the most compelling computational aspects that need to be addressed to push calculations to unravel new physics?
